CHANCELLOR Rachel Reeves can’t expect many Christmas cards this year from owners of expensive homes after introducing a ‘mansion tax’ in last week’s Budget.Properties worth more than £2million will have to pay thousands more in tax each year, with the most expensive facing an additional tax of up to £7,500 annually. But how will this affect the property market?
The new tax doesn’t come in until April 2028, so we can expect a glut of houses priced just under £2million coming up for sale as owners rush to downsize. Here’s how the mansion tax might affect local markets, and what £2million can buy......
